Edible Wedding Favours: Small Details, Lasting Impressions

Tie the Knot Scotland Feature

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of contributing to Tie the Knot Scotland, where I shared my thoughts on edible wedding favours and how they can become part of a beautifully styled wedding tablescape.

One of the questions I was asked was how edible favours can feel like a natural extension of the wedding design rather than something added at the very end. My answer has always been simple: when they are planned alongside the cake and overall styling, they become part of the story rather than just a gift for guests.

Edible wedding favours as part of the styling

Edible favours feel most intentional when they are planned as part of the tablescape in the same way as the cake.

I keep them within the same design language: the colour palette, floral style and finishing details such as ribbon tone or a subtle metallic accent. They can be placed at each guest’s setting so they become part of the first impression as guests sit down at the table, or styled together on a separate favour table for guests to pick up as they leave.

When displayed in a way that feels abundant and considered, they add depth to the overall styling and photograph beautifully.

Beautiful from the start of the day

Pre-packed favours make the on-the-day set-up simple, consistent and hygienic. They reduce handling, protect delicate finishes and keep everything looking polished throughout the day.

They also work beautifully for guests. A clean, presentation-ready box is easy to pick up and take home, while keeping the favour intact. Because they are already finished and boxed, they can be styled as part of the table décor from the very beginning.

Designed to complement the wedding cake

For me, cohesion begins with the wedding moodboard: the core palette, the floral direction and a consistent finish across the full collection.

That can mean a very uniform look, or a more varied set where each cupcake, macaron or cookie is slightly different, but still sits within the same theme.

Where the cake features floral elements, I often echo those motifs in the favours so the cake, sweet table and edible gifts feel thoughtfully connected.

Flavour can also become part of that cohesion, either by carrying a key note from the main cake into the favours, or by creating a coordinated selection that complements the cake rather than competing with it.

What can be created

For weddings, edible favours can be designed in many different formats, depending on the style of the day.

At Eclectic Luxuries, these may include:

  • buttercream flower cupcakes,
  • cupcake cones,
  • small macaron boxes,
  • hand-decorated cookies,
  • mini dessert jars,
  • luxury favour gift boxes.

They sit beautifully on the table, look refined in photographs and, just as importantly, are made to be enjoyed.

When packaged in matching boxes with ribbon or a small tag, they become part of the overall styling during the day and a thoughtful little gift for guests to take home at the end of the celebration.

Practical details to consider

When incorporating edible favours into wedding styling, it helps to start with guest numbers and how they will be presented.

They can be placed at each setting, arranged on the sweet table, displayed at a dedicated favour station, or even integrated into an escort card display where guests find their name and collect their favour at the same time.

A small thank-you note, name tag or simple sign such as “Please take one” can make the presentation feel personal and considered.

Venue conditions also matter, especially temperature, storage and timing of set-up for summer weddings or warmer rooms. Packaging should be sturdy, elegant and suitable for guests to take home.

Many couples also choose a mixed selection with clearly labelled dietary options and allergen information, so everyone can enjoy the favour with confidence.

A considered detail for your wedding day

Edible favours are small, but they can make a table feel beautifully finished.

If you are planning your wedding and would like favours, cupcakes, macarons or mini desserts designed to complement your cake and overall styling, I would love to create a bespoke collection for your celebration.
